St Paul's Monestry and River Don

Hi Everyone,

Today, we took a walk to  St Paul's Monestry in Jarrow. This is a lovely place to visit, if you are local or worth noting down for when restrictions are lifted if you are further afield, to enjoy a free day out.

We initially did plan on visiting the play area, which is lovely with wooden play frames and suited for a variety of ages, but it was rather busy so we decided to go for a walk along the river instead.

The thing we like most about the River Don is the sheer amount of swans that call it home. They always seems to be in a different stretch of river everytime we visit so we have fun seeing who will spot them first.

After walking along the river, we headed to St Paul's Monestry (a free of charge English Heritage site) to explore the ruins. The kids always love playing among the ruins and reading about the history of the church. When covid restrictions are lifted, you can also visit inside the church. The church is very beautiful with stained glass windows and lots of original points of historical interest. The church has guides inside and a small gift shop.

Directly across the road there is a nature reserve with lots of paths suitable for cycling. There is a small statue trail and a pond to visit as well.

If you wanted to add to your day, you could visit Jarrow Hall (which is just up from the church) this is a museum and Anglo Saxon farm (chargeable) which has been a popular local attraction for many years.

The lovely Hive Cafe situated right next to Jarrow Hall is open for takeaways too.

The Case of the Stolen Heart Treasure Trail

 #ad

Hi Everyone,

We spent a lovely evening last night investigating the Case of the Stolen Heart Treasure Trail.

We are huge fans of Treasure Trails and have missed being able to take part in new trails during lockdown so this FREE virtual trail was just the ticket.

Just like the normal outdoor trails you are given clues to follow which will help you find the treasure (in this case love interest) you are looking for.

The great thing about Treasure Trails is that the whole family can get involved and this was no exception. We usually love discovering new places while completing trails and this was no exception. Our girls absolutely loved looking on Google earth to find the desired locations and the clues within. Who knew there was so many valentine related streets in England.

The virtual trail is more condensed than the standard walking trail and it only took us around 30-40 mins to complete (I forgot to time us!) which felt like a good amount of time for this particular platform. Once complete you can also enter a competition to win a prize if you have worked out who the love interest is.

This trail was so much fun to do as a family and would also be lovely to do on Valentine's Day to make it a bit more special.

You can get your free trail here:
