Brimham Rocks and OFFER

 Hi Everyone,

Today we visited Brimham Rocks National Trust in Harrogate. This is definitely the place to go for adventure lovers and kids who love to climb. Our youngest especially, was in her absolute element here.

As the name suggests this site is filled to the brim with rocks of all different sizes and shapes making some absolutely wonderful structures and most importantly perfect for climbing opportunities. With the varying sizes and shapes there is a definetly a rock that can be climbed by everyone. We really loved that there were, toddlers through to teens and of course adults all having a go and enjoying this outdoor adventure.

Our youngest who is 8 loves to climb anything and everything so attempted pretty much every rock we came across (within reason).

From the various vantage points you can see some amazing views of the country side and lots of farm animals to spot too.

If you don't want to climb the rocks you can just follow the trails rounds and admire the scenery we saw lots of dogs walkers doing exactly that.

The site is free to enter but parking in the large onsite car park is chargeable unless you are national trust members. The toilet facilities and kiosk were open and there was a lovely ice cream at the entrance. This was the busiest site we have visited since lockdown but as its so vast there are plenty of routes you can take to get away from any busier spots. We would definitely recommend going earlier in the day so you can make the most of it being quieter and if you fully explore the site we would say you'd need at least 4 hours.

Cragside Review

 Hi Everyone,

We recently visited the wonderful Cragside National Trust in Morpeth. Cragside is a absolutely enormous site with so much to do. You can easily spend a full day exploring.

On arrival after visiting the visitor centre and facilities we choose to do a trail that led us over the iron bridge allowing us to have wonderful views of the rivers and the main house. The trail then winds it way through the forest and passes by the old power house. We once spotted a deer while on this route.

After exploring the forest we headed back to the house to enjoy a picnic outside. The house is set on top of a hill so the views of the surrounding vistas are wonderful. The house itself is currently closed but even just being outside is a lovely experience.

Next we headed back to our car and drove to the labyrinth, you can walk the full route but as we've said Cragside is huge so a lovely scenic drive was a good option for us. Our kids love the labyrinth wich is set on the forest with wooden statues and tree house you can easily spend a few hours getting lost on. This is our children's favourite part of Cragside.

After this we visited the adjacent lake. The lakes are beautiful at Cragside, surrounding by heather with a very mountain feel to them. There are lots of paths to walk around with plenty of seating to fully enjoy the views.

Throughout the site there are toilet facilities, cafés and kiosks and plenty of seating areas. This review only contains a small snippet of what Cragside has to offer so we do recommend you check out their Web page to see more. Cragside is chargeable but free to National Trust members. We couldn't be without our membership so feel free to check the below link out about how to get yours.

Wharton Park and Durham

 Hi Everyone,

We recently visited Wharton Park in Durham which is located next to the railway station. The park is set in  beautiful surroundings and has spectacular views of Durham cathedral.

The park is split into various sections, at the entrance their is a visitor centre with toilet facilities and a cafe offering takeaway food options. There are lots of picnic tables and benches dotted around to enjoy any goodies you purchase or just to admire the view.

Next to this is a younger children's play area with lots of different equipment with a train theme. Directly opposite is an obstacle course with a well equipped outdoor gym aimed at ages 14+. This area has a particular lovely view of the catherderal and is ideal for a photo opportunity. You can also see the trains coming into the station so perfect for any train spotters.

Further into the park there is a basketball court and older kids play area. This is again well equppied and has a particularly cool slide with various obstacles to climb to reach the summit.

The play area leads onto a beautiful community garden filled with blooms. It's a lovely little area with lots of butterflies fluttering around.

Back towards the top of the park is the old battery which again boosts lovely views and the kids loved the castle feel to it.

You can find lots of sculptures around the park and information boards giving lots of interesting info about the park and what's in it. We really enjoyed reading them as we walked around.

The park has lots of events and even has a mini car track and putting green. Check their website for when activities are back up and running.

After visiting the park we took a short walk into Durham and visited Bell's fish and chip shop in the market square. We always like to mention Bell's as not only do they make amazing food but they are also coeliac friendly so it's always ago to for us. They are taking part in the government's 50% eat out to help out deal so a perfect time to try them if you haven't before.

Thornley Woods

 Hi Everyone,

Today we visited Thornley Woods in Gateshead. The woods is free to enter with an onsite car park and visitors centre open for take away food orders and toilet facilities. They have a lovely covered picnic area too ideal to take a break.

This is a lovely wood and was very quiet and peaceful on our visit. There are various trails you can take all clearly marked along the route. They are different lengths and intensities so you can choose which you want to do.

We took the sculpture trail route today and found some amazing sculptures carved into the trees. This route was only half a mile long and would be fine for little legs and prams etc.

We also did a bit of off track exploring. We found some lovely walks in the woods directly across the road from the Visitor Centre however there was quite alot of steps and hill climbs so more suitable for older kids.

You can walk to derwent side play park along the routes. We didn't visit the park today but have been previously, its a good size play area and should keep the kids occupied for a while.

This woods is definitely worth a visit and a explore.

Rainton Festival

 Hi Everyone,

We had a very fun time last night at the first night of the outdoor Rainton Festival. Held at The Rainton Arena (Sunderland).

The festival which is free to enter consists of a good sized funfair which has rides for all ages and a good few to keep the adrenaline junkies among us happy. Prices start from £1.50 with the most expensive being £5 for the bungie trampolines.

There are also game booths such as hook a duck, ring toss and basket ball to name a few. There's also refreshment stands throughout. We would advise bringing cash although some rides did accept card payments.

The second part of the festival is a main stage which will host different acts throughout the weekends in August. In order to gain access to this area you can book tickets for a table which seats upto 6 people. Once inside you have your own area and you are able to order food and drinks from your phone to be delivered direct to you. The service was very fast. The tables are under a circus style tent with the sides off so perfect if it rains. The first nights entertainment was Dick and Dom who put on a very family friendly show that kids and adults both enjoyed. We also really enjoyed the warm up act who was very entertaining.

The organisers have gone to a lot of effort to ensure the publics safety regarding the  Covid-19 guidelines. Areas are very clearly marked to allow a two metre social distance, hand sanitisers are on every ride and on entry and exit to the main stage, there was alot of security and staff members dotted around to ensure everything was in order and the toilets were cleaned after each visit so were spotless. Even the free onsite carpark was organised amazingly well to avoid any social distancing problems.

We had a fantastic night out with the kids.

Big Kid Circus 2020

 Hi Everyone,

We enjoyed a fabulous night at Big Kid Circus yesterday for their opening night in Whitburn. The theme was Cuba and they had all kinds of amazing acts from fabulous acrobatics to a jaw dropping roller skating routine. We really thought this was the best year yet, the talent of the performers is exceptional.

Big Kid Circus has a brand new 3D animal experience this year too. It was beautiful to watch it very much reminded us of being in an aquarium, so peaceful and tranquil.

The star of the show is definitely the clown, he has a wonderful comedic presence and had us all laughing and clapping along with him. He truly is a credit to the show.

There was the usual circus food of toffee apples, hot dogs, chips, burgers, slushes and our kids personal favourite candy floss (that was bigger than their heads). You can also buy flashy lights, balloons and circus souvenirs.

The circus will be in Whitburn (Sunderland) until August 16th before moving onto Blaydon. We would definitely recommend a visit and pre booking your tickets is advisable. They currently have an offer of all seats for £7.99.
